Setting the record straight

To set the record straight and with all due respect to this year’s Malibu Little League 10 and 11-year-old All Star Baseball team and their accomplishments, the distinguished title of being the first team from Malibu Little League to play in a District 25 All Stars Championship game has already been claimed. That honor belongs to the Malibu Little League Juniors Softball team of 2005. [In response to the article “Little Leaguers make history,” July 19, 2012]

That summer, the Juniors Softball team won the Tournament of Champions in addition to making it to the final Championship All Star Game for District 25. Unfortunately, they lost the Championship game 10-9 to North Venice. They went on to win the Tournament of Champions again the following summer in 2006. The Tournament of Champions banner hung at the entrance of the Bluffs for a number of years in their honor.

Coached by Michael Zweig, Connie Connors, John Haag and J.R. Rader, most of the girls from this winning team went on to play varsity softball all four years at Malibu High, advancing the furthest in CIF-Southern Section playoffs than any other softball team in school history their senior year.

To relive the glory days of the summer of 2005, the article on The Malibu Times website can be found at malibutimes.com/articles/2005/08/11/life_and_arts/art6.txt.
