Congratulations to the championship Malibu High School boys’ water polo team, the best high school team in Southern California D6. A thrilling play-off run after an undefeated league season capped off on Nov. 19 when the 2014 Sharks clinched the California Inter-Scholastic Federation championship. It is the first top polo title in MHS history and the first for beloved coach Mike Mulligan.Â
The team celebrated with the traditional winners’ dunking of their fully clothed coach. The crowd roared, “Mulligan! Mulligan!” It was a joyous show of love and respect for a coach who has achieved the almost impossible dream. Because Malibu is a very small high school and water polo is very big in California, for our Malibu boys to win this championship is an outstanding accomplishment, made possible by terrific coaches.Â
With all our hearts, we thank Hayden Goldberg, Steven Goldberg and Mike Mulligan. To us, they have always been champions. We are the proud parents of the captain of the MHS champion water polo team, Isaac Vandor, and it has been an honor to have both of our sons play for “Mully” and his coaching team. Our boys are better men because of it.Â
Our students, our water polo ohana and our community are very grateful to you, Mully. Congratulations and go Sharks!Â
