Christi Hogin returns as interim city manager

It’s a strange twist of fate that Christi Hogin, the former city attorney of Malibu, will once again return to the city.

But this time, it will be as the interim city manager to administer the city for the next six months, while the council goes through the process of finding a new permanent city manager.

We are reprinting my column of June 17, 1999, on page A4 because it pretty much summarizes the heated and frequently acrimonious battle that went on for more than a year, during which time Hogin was the subject at every council meeting to a barrage of furious assaults on her character, her ability and her integrity.

The irony is, Mayor Tom Hasse was the third vote that ultimately forced Hogin out, and also the critical vote to bring her back as interim city manager. See opinion page.
