Evil antennas

Your staff writer Jonathan Friedman’s article regarding Mayor Ken Kearsley comments on the Point Dume Microcell facility was quite interesting. These antennas sites such as Microcell’s are what our cell phones talk through when we make a call and are mounted on poles or other high structures to give us good reception. Our mayor feels that “if a pole were to collapse, it could create a great environment risk.” I think not. Maybe our mayor thinks the antennas look evil or they emit atomic radiation with which the winds of Point Dume will blow destruction upon mankind.

The mayor refers to the antennas as “garbage on telephone poles.” Should a public servant who has such disdain for such a vital public utility remain in office? Maybe our good mayor is of the seventeenth century and is tilting at poles.

I wouldn’t hesitate to lease a plot of ground to a radio telephone company for their cell phone site. The equipment cabinet looks like a stylish fridge and the antenna/mast would give the property a high- tech touch, the cross of Marconi and a salute to 21st century technology. Besides, I’d get great reception.

Anyway, not to worry.
