Letter: Concerning Flight Patterns

I am a Big Rock resident and since October, we have noticed a spike in the flight traffic along the edge of the coast. Upon the suggestion of one of our residents, I just downloaded a free app called “flightradar24.” I saw (on the app) and heard at least 10 planes fly right over us between 10:25 p.m. and 10:45 p.m. on May 25. That is a plane almost every minute.

The flights were all from different airlines, starting with Delta, Cathay, Virgin America, Alaskan (two of them), American, a private plane and more. This is not limited to one airline — it is a new flight pattern.

The LA Times printed a story on May 25 about how plane exhaust is likely damaging the lungs of families along LAX flight paths. These potential health concerns come along with ridiculously loud noise levels that have me wearing earplugs at night when I should be listening to the waves lulling me to sleep.

Anyone who is noticing this new noise level can submit a written complaint to ems02.bksv.com/WebTrak/lax4/complaint_form/form. There is also a hotline that can be reached by calling 424.646.6473 if you want to speak to a live person or leave a message. It takes less than a minute. Hopefully, this will stop sooner than later.
